South Africa ended India’s 12-match winning streak in the T20 World Cup with a dominant 76-run victory in Ahmedabad on Sunday during the opening Group 1 Super Eights match.
Batting first, South Africa posted 187 for 7. David Miller played an aggressive knock of 63 runs, while Tristan Stubbs added important runs towards the end to lift the total. In reply, the defending champions were bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. It was the first time in the tournament that India had to chase a target, and they struggled badly.
Left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen delivered an outstanding spell, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs. Spinner Keshav Maharaj also impressed with 3 wickets for 24 runs. The South African bowlers exposed weaknesses in India’s batting line-up and kept pressure on them throughout the innings.
South Africa captain Aiden Markram praised his team’s performance.
