During an address this morning, French President Emmanuel Macron said the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel were not legal.
He said Iran itself “bears primary responsibility” for the US-Israeli action, but added that, “the United States of America and Israel have decided to launch military operations; they were conducted outside international law, which we cannot approve.”
Macron is not the only leader who has cast doubt over the legality of the US and Israel’s actions.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said the attacks did not fall in line with international law, while Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard raised concerns over their compliance with standards of international law.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also condemned the attacks by Israel and the US on Monday, but stopped short of accusing them of flouting international law.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was clear on the advice he’d received ahead of the initial bombardment, according to The Washington Post: “I will not commit our military personnel to unlawful action.”
The Australian government continues to evade questions about whether the nations’ joint military operations adhere to international law.
